Background of the Study
The satisfaction of geriatric patients with nursing care is an essential indicator of the quality of healthcare services provided to older adults. Elderly patients often have unique healthcare needs that require specialized attention, including chronic disease management, pain relief, and support for activities of daily living (Ibrahim et al., 2024). Satisfaction with nursing care has been shown to correlate with better health outcomes, higher levels of adherence to treatment plans, and improved overall well-being (Sani & Haruna, 2023). In Bauchi State, where the population of elderly individuals is growing, the healthcare system must ensure that nursing services are responsive to their specific needs.
Patient satisfaction is influenced by multiple factors, including the quality of communication between nurses and patients, the perceived competence of nursing staff, and the level of respect and empathy shown by healthcare providers (Abubakar et al., 2023). In the context of geriatric care, satisfaction is also linked to the environment in which care is provided, the availability of necessary resources, and the involvement of family members in the care process (Nwachukwu et al., 2024). Despite its importance, there is limited research on geriatric patient satisfaction with nursing care in Bauchi State. This study seeks to evaluate how satisfied elderly patients in Bauchi State are with the nursing care they receive and to identify factors influencing their satisfaction.
Statement of the Problem
As the elderly population in Bauchi State continues to grow, ensuring high levels of satisfaction with nursing care becomes increasingly important for improving patient outcomes. However, there is limited data on the satisfaction of geriatric patients with the care they receive in the state. Understanding the factors that influence patient satisfaction is crucial for improving nursing practices and ensuring that elderly patients receive optimal care.
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the satisfaction of geriatric patients with nursing care in Bauchi State.
To identify the factors that influence geriatric patients’ satisfaction with nursing care in Bauchi State.
To assess the relationship between nursing care satisfaction and health outcomes in elderly patients.
Research Questions
How satisfied are geriatric patients with the nursing care they receive in Bauchi State?
What factors influence geriatric patients’ satisfaction with nursing care in Bauchi State?
How does satisfaction with nursing care relate to the health outcomes of elderly patients?
Research Hypotheses
Higher levels of satisfaction with nursing care are associated with better health outcomes in elderly patients.
Factors such as nurse-patient communication, competence, and empathy significantly influence geriatric patient satisfaction.
Nursing care in Bauchi State does not meet the expectations of geriatric patients, leading to lower satisfaction levels.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on elderly patients receiving nursing care in healthcare facilities in Bauchi State. Limitations may include challenges in accurately measuring patient satisfaction and the subjectivity of patient responses.
